Love and Pain, Edvard Munch (1895)
Love and Pain
The love I feel is causing me much pain
Thinking of you renders me deathly weak
Confusion of mind unable to speak
An ache of heart unable to contain
Such a desire unable to restrain
These dreaded ailments make my future bleak
What unknown treatment must I quickly seek
For I’m on the verge of being insane
There is no promise love to be a joy
Giving your heart means it’s no longer yours
And your thoughts never to be rational
Nor a sure quick-fix that you may deploy
To erase the worst of love’s aching sores
You’re doomed as resisting love is futile
