Young Girl on the Shore, Edvard Munch (1896)
Young Girl on the Shore
All living things from the water did come
Being nurtured by the warmth of our sun
So many things of beauty did blossom
Climaxing with a very special one
No greater beauty have I ever seen
With a beating heart of the purest gold
A gentle softness from her eyes of green
And arms with power to remove all cold
There’s no other with whom I’d rather be
To spend my remaining life at her side
Facing the challenges of life’s journey
For it is she who is the perfect guide
She easily provides gentle comfort
So able to quiet my frequent doubt
Lessening the pain whenever I’m hurt
The flame of my love will never go out

The words of Edvard Munch
I GIVE HER THE LIGHT OF SUMMERNIGHT’S
SOFT BEAUTY – OVER HER I POUR
THE SPLENDOR OF THE VANISHING SUN –
OVER HER HAIR – OVER HER
FACE OVER HER WHITE DRESS –
SHINING GOLD –
I PLACE HER AGAINST THE BLUE
OF THE BOOMING SEA –
WITH THE SINUOUS
SNAKE LIKE CURVES OF THE SHORELINE
