Silence, John Atkinson Grimshaw (n.d)
Silence
The shielded moon struggles to pass
As is my deep love reaching out
To you who stay behind the fence
Not letting me beyond the gate
Searching for ways to pick the lock
To get inside your wanting heart
For there is something in your eyes
That is not part of your disguise
There is calmness in our caress
Yet heavy pounding in your chest
It’s I who’s first to pull away
But sensing you wish to linger
Dare you say directly to me
‘You shall not love me anymore’
A request I’ll surely ignore
Will love even in your silence
